Thermal

Infrared Thermal Imaging:

Light Laboratory is equipped with chamber and custom designed LED junction temperature measurements.

Primary cause of LED failures is improper thermal management.

Performance characteristics of LED components is influenced by the operating temperature; therefore, LED system designers need a basic understanding of thermal design and performance.

Performance characteristics may be recoverable changes, such as light output, color and voltage, while others, such as lifetime, can experience a non-recoverable degradation due to high operating temperatures.

Because of its profound effect on LED characteristics and performance, DLC (DesignLights ConsortiumTM) requires ISTMT (In-Situ Temperature Measurement Test) should be performed on the hottest LED in a lighting luminaire.

In addition to ISTMT test, Light Laboratory, Inc. provides consulting and testing services to assist in diagnosing thermal problems in lighting luminaires. Our infrared thermal imaging service helps our clients find out temperature related problems during design phase.
